An Adjusted Recruitment Process

We welcome and encourage applications from all candidates. We are committed to supporting all candidates to take part in the recruitment process.

Acorn Training is a Disability Confident employer and we are committed to ensuring that all candidates have an opportunity to demonstrate what they can bring to Acorn Training.

This starts at the point of application, where we offer  reasonable adjustments to candidates when they apply for one of our jobs. During the application process, we will ask you if you need any reasonable adjustments.

As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy

What are reasonable adjustments?

Reasonable adjustments are changes an employer can make to remove or reduce a disadvantage related to someone's disability.

A reasonable adjustment is a change to any part of the recruitment process that removes or reduces a disadvantage that might prevent certain people from effectively applying for a job.

The aim is to ensure a fair and accessible process by supporting candidates to perform to their potential during the recruitment process

Do you need a reasonable adjustment?

Reasonable Adjustments at Acorn Training are to support candidates who may face disadvantages in the interview process when applying for one of our jobs due to a diagnosed or undiagnosed disability, long-term condition, or a short-term need as a result of an illness or injury.

It may be that you:
  • have a visual impairment and need any assessment-related text to be presented in a larger font size
  • have dyslexia and need additional time to complete reading or writing tasks
  • have a physical disability or injury and need longer breaks to stretch and relieve muscle tension
  • have a mental disability and need assistance with reading or longer breaks
This is not an exhaustive list and these are just some examples of the adjustments we may be able to provide.

If you feel that you may need a reasonable adjustment during your application, we will work with you to address what this may be as best we can.

What reasonable adjustments are available?

There are a number of reasonable adjustments which could help you during our recruitment process, which could include:
  • Extra time or extended breaks.
  • Someone to read materials aloud or write out your spoken answers on any test/assessments that require a written response.
  • Providing the main interview questions in written format as the interviewing managers ask them.
  • Providing some of the questions a short time prior to the interview to help you become familiar with the style of questions.
  • Flexibility on morning or afternoon slots for interviews or assessments – if possible.

How can I get reasonable adjustments?

If you require another method of application, please email recruitment@acorntraining.co.uk or call 01782 827827

If you think you may need a reasonable adjustiment during the recruitment process, select 'yes' on the application form when applying for the relevant role.

Our recruitment team will then contact you to confirm eligibility and discuss any adjustments you may require to see if this is something we can offer.

We hope to make our recruitment process fair for all and you will not be judged for requesting reasonable adjustments.

We need to know about any reasonable adjustments prior to the recruitment process so that we can ensure the right adjustments have been made in time.
