Recruitment FAQs

How do you apply?

You can apply online via the relevant job and clicking ‘apply now’.

If you want to apply for more than one role you will need to complete an application form for both.

As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy

If you have a disability, please see our reasonable adjustments page for more information

Why do I have to give you my full employment history?

As part of Acorn’s ‘safer recruitment’ process, we need to be aware of your full employment history for us to understand your previous experience and to also discuss any gaps with you.

It is important that you highlight any gaps (anything above 4 weeks) in your employment history and explain what you were doing for these periods e.g. stay at home parent, travelling, caring for a dependant etc.

Do I need to declare my qualifications?

Yes please! Please give details of your qualifications and or training – or ensure this is detailed on your CV. If the role you are applying for requires a particular qualification, you will need to provide certification for these at interview.

Do I need to provide references?

If you are successful then yes, you will need to provide references

We require the names of three referees, not related to you, who are willing and able to provide up-to-date references on your qualifications, experience and skills.
One of these must be your current or most recent employer. The second should be another employer and the final reference can be a character reference.

If you have not previously been employed, a referee related to relevant voluntary or community work or, if appropriate, your head teacher or lecturer/tutor from your last school, college or university.

What happens if I’m successful?

Please be aware that all applicants will be required to undertake pre-employment checks (references and DBS check – plus vetting for prison based roles!) and to attend a 2 day mandatory induction programme at our head office in Hanley before commencing their role. This process helps to prepare you for the role and gives you relevant training required such as Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity. We therefore advise all successful candidates to be mindful of this when handing in their notice as a start date will not be confirmed until our safer recruitment procedures have been completed.
